Free Schools Programme Uncovers the Wartime Story of the Secret Listeners

Trent Park House of Secrets, our new museum opening in London this summer, has launched a free schools programme that uncovers a little-known chapter of wartime history: the Secret Listeners who gathered vital intelligence from German prisoners of war held right here at Trent Park.

Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Key Stage 2 programme is now open for bookings. Designed for students aged 8–11 in Enfield and Barnet schools, it uses immersive drama and historical investigation to bring this extraordinary story to life.

During the Second World War, Trent Park House was requisitioned by the British government and transformed into a prisoner-of-war camp for high-ranking German officers. Unknown to the captives, the entire house and grounds were fitted with cutting-edge listening equipment. The intelligence gathered by the Secret Listeners - including many women and refugees - helped shape the course of the war.

The Trent Park House Sharing Stories learning programme has been co-created with partner schools and Freshwater Theatre Company, ensuring it is rooted in the needs of real classrooms and delivers a genuinely unforgettable experience for young learners.
